The women of hoofdklasser Reiger Boys are heading into the winter break with a positive outlook. After holding title contender to a 0-0 draw two weeks ago, the team, led by coach Arnold de Block, secured a victory against the higher-ranked AZSV last Saturday with a score of 2-0.
Following a slightly downturn, Reiger Boys VR1 had slipped into the lower regions of the league table. However, their win on Saturday secured them a gap from the bottom three positions, placing them eighth midway through the season.
At a chilly Sportpark De Wending, Reiger Boys took an early lead in the first quarter against their opponents from Aalten. Amy Visser converted a penalty in the early stages of the game, followed by Merel Albertsma doubling the score shortly after. Maintaining control, Reiger Boys' goalkeeper Jana Spieker kept a clean sheet. With better precision, they could have extended their lead over the fourth-placed team.
Reiger Boys VR1 will resume the competition on February 1st with an away game against Jong Sparta Rotterdam.
